Mammootty’s epic period drama Mamangam releases today. The big-budget film has been helmed by M Padmakumar. Earlier, Sanjeev Pillai had been roped in to direct the feature. However, due to varied reasons, the job ultimately fell into Padmakumar’s lap.
The film is centered around the Mamankam festival. It tells the story of ‘Chavers’ (suicide warriors) who plan to overthrow the Zamorin ruler. Apart from Mammootty, Mamangam features Unni Mukundan, Kaniha, Anu Sithara, Tarun Raj Arora, Prachi Tehlan, Sudev Nair, Suresh Krishna, Manikuttan and Siddique among others.
A true depiction of history narrated with strong characters and technical side. The emotions goes in the favour the movie while the action scenes are captured impressively. Once again it's mammukka
who remains the highlight of the film with the young boy rocking, There is a certain scene in the first half where Mammukka is supposed to act a little effeminate and he completely nails it. He transitions from a fierce warrior to an effeminate artist beautifully. The film is rich with tradition and cultural plots. There is a ritual to everything and almost every move has a motive. It keeps the viewers hooked to the screens. the women in the film look aesthetically pleasing. Kudos to the costume designer of the film, who has used the culture to its best. The second half promises to be an entertaining ride that unfolds all the secrets and hopefully, will also have more of Mammukka in it. There is also going to be an epic battle sequence that you cannot afford to miss. Mamangam fulfills fan's expectations.
